BOXED is not available in every location. Some regions are restricted from using the platform entirely, and physical shipping is limited to three countries. This article explains which restrictions apply and what to do if you see an "action not permitted in your region" message when you believe it should not apply to you.
TL;DR
BOXED is not available in Michigan, Washington, Louisiana, or South Carolina. Accounts cannot be used from those states, and this is a regulatory restriction that cannot be lifted for an individual account. Physical cards ship to the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom only, though players elsewhere can still sell items back for gems, use Exchange, receive CS2 skins to Steam, or take a crypto withdrawal. If you see a region message and you are not in a restricted location, it is almost always a VPN, proxy, or mobile routing issue, and the fixes are below. Using a VPN to work around a regional restriction is not permitted.
Restricted US states
BOXED is not available in Michigan, Washington, Louisiana, or South Carolina. Accounts cannot be used from these states.
This is a regulatory restriction on the platform itself, not on a particular payment method or feature. It is not something our team can lift or make an exception for, and there is no alternative access method for these states.
If you are in one of these four states and you are seeing this restriction, it is applying correctly. If you are not in one of these states and you are still seeing a region message, your location is likely being read incorrectly, and the troubleshooting steps below should resolve it.
Physical shipping is limited to three countries
BOXED ships physical cards to the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. This is separate from platform availability. If you are outside those three countries but in a region where BOXED is available, you can use the platform normally, you simply cannot receive a physical shipment.
If physical shipping is not available to you, you still have several ways to realise the value of an item:
Sell the item back for gems from your inventory.
Exchange it for a different item of similar value. See Exchange: swapping items for other items.
Take a CS2 skin to your linked Steam account, which has no shipping component. See CS2 skins: sending and withdrawing to Steam.
Withdraw in crypto, which is not tied to a shipping country. See Crypto (ETH) withdrawals.
Display the item on your profile in a Binder.
Shipping timelines and costs for supported countries are in Shipping: tracking, timelines and costs.
"This action isn't permitted in your region"
This message means BOXED has determined that your location is one where the platform, or the specific action you attempted, is restricted. It is a regulatory restriction rather than a bug, and it cannot be overridden on request.
If you are in Michigan, Washington, Louisiana, or South Carolina, this message is applying correctly and there is no workaround available.
Seeing this message when it should not apply to you
If you are not in a restricted location and you are still seeing a region message, your location is most likely being read incorrectly. This is usually caused by a VPN, a proxy, mobile network routing, or stale cached data. Work through these steps in order:
Turn off any VPN, proxy, or content blocker, then reload the page.
Switch from mobile data to Wi-Fi. Mobile networks sometimes route traffic through a gateway in a different state or country.
Sign out and sign back in, then clear your cache and cookies for boxed.gg.
Try a different browser, such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Brave.
Check your device location settings and make sure your browser is allowed to report your real location.
If the message is still appearing after all of that, please ask to speak to a human and our team will look into it. It helps if you can tell us which state or country you are in, which action triggered the message, and confirm that you have no VPN or proxy running.
VPNs and regional restrictions
Using a VPN or proxy to access BOXED from a restricted location is not permitted and can put your account at risk under our account policies.
A VPN also tends to make matters worse in practice, because it can place your connection in a region with different restrictions and trigger the exact errors you are trying to avoid. If you use a VPN for other reasons, turn it off before using BOXED.
If you have moved to a different state or country, update your account details and shipping address so your account reflects where you actually are. See Changing your shipping address.
Common questions
Can I use BOXED in Michigan, Washington, Louisiana, or South Carolina?
No. BOXED is not available in Michigan, Washington, Louisiana, or South Carolina, and accounts cannot be used from those states. This is a regulatory restriction on the platform and there is no alternative access method or payment workaround for these locations.
Which countries does BOXED ship physical cards to?
BOXED ships physical cards to the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. If you are outside those countries but in a region where BOXED is available, you can still sell items back for gems, use Exchange, receive CS2 skins to Steam, take a crypto withdrawal, or display items in a Binder.
I moved to a restricted state. What happens to my account and my items?
If you have moved to a state where BOXED is not available, please ask to speak to a human. Our team can explain what applies to your account and talk through your options for any items or balance you are holding.
Can I use a VPN to get around a regional restriction?
No. Using a VPN to access BOXED from a restricted location is not permitted and can put your account at risk. If you are using a VPN for other reasons, turn it off before using BOXED, as it can cause region errors on its own even when you are in a supported location.
Why is a feature available for another player but not for me?
Feature availability depends on the local rules and regulations that apply where you are, so two players in different states or countries can see different options. Your account is not being singled out.
Will support lift a regional restriction for my account?
Regional restrictions cannot be lifted for an individual account, because they come from local regulation rather than from an account setting. What our team can do is help confirm whether a restriction genuinely applies to you or whether your location is being misread. If the troubleshooting steps above do not resolve it, please ask to speak to a human.
