Two account rules keep BOXED fair and compliant: BOXED accounts are for collectors aged 18 and over, and each person may hold only one account. Both are confirmed as part of identity verification (KYC). This article explains what each rule means in practice and what to do if you have run into one of them.
Summary
BOXED is for collectors aged 18 and over. This applies in every market we operate in.
New registrations confirm age at signup, and the requirement is also being applied to existing accounts.
Age is confirmed during identity verification (KYC), using the identity document you submit.
One account per person. Additional or duplicate accounts are not permitted.
Duplicate accounts are identified during identity verification and through routine review.
If you created a second account by accident, tell us rather than leaving it. Please ask to speak to a human and our team will help you keep the right account.
If you are locked out, recover your existing account instead of making a new one.
Identity verification is powered by Veriff and requires a physical government-issued ID.
Age requirement: 18 and over
BOXED accounts are for collectors aged 18 and over. This is a single, consistent requirement that applies across every market we operate in.
What changed
Our earlier Terms of Service allowed limited use by younger collectors with a parent or guardian's permission. As BOXED has grown, and as standards for age verification online have tightened, we have moved to a single 18+ requirement everywhere.
New registrations now confirm age at signup, and we are applying the same standard to existing accounts.
How your age is confirmed
Your age is confirmed as part of identity verification (KYC), using the physical government-issued ID you submit through Veriff. This is one of the reasons verification is required before certain features become available.
If an account does not meet the requirement
When an account is found not to meet the 18+ requirement, the following applies:
The account is locked, and you will be notified of the date.
Any remaining purchased gem balance is refunded to the original payment method.
The account is then closed on a date we will confirm with you.
Any items already claimed and shipped are yours to keep.
If you would like your personal data deleted, you can request that and we will process it.
If you believe an age determination was made in error, you can reply to the message you received with supporting documentation and our team will review it. We would be glad to have you collect with us once you are 18.
One account per person
Every person on BOXED may hold one account only. This applies regardless of how the extra account was created or what it is used for. Creating additional or duplicate accounts is not allowed and can result in accounts being restricted or closed.
The rule exists for a few practical reasons:
Fairness. Features such as gem drops, promotions, missions and the affiliate program are designed to be used once per person. Multiple accounts take value away from other members.
Compliance. Identity verification only works if one verified identity maps to one account.
Security. A single account keeps your items, balance and history in one place, which makes it much easier to protect and to recover.
It also means you cannot refer yourself. Duplicate accounts do not count toward the referral requirements in Affiliate and sponsorship program.
Duplicate accounts are identified during identity verification and through routine review of accounts on the platform. We do not publish the details of how that review is carried out.
What to do if you created a second account by accident
This happens more often than you might think, usually when someone signs up again with a different email address, through a different sign-in method, or after forgetting they had registered before. It is not treated the same as deliberately running multiple accounts, and the right move is simply to tell us.
Stop using the newer account. Do not purchase gems on it, play on it, or withdraw from it.
Work out which account you want to keep. Usually this is the older account, or the one carrying your verified identity, your items and your history.
Let us know. Please ask to speak to a human and our team will look into it. Tell us the email address on each account and which one you would like to keep.
Wait for confirmation before continuing. Our team will sort out which account remains active.
Raising it yourself is always better than leaving it. An account closed at your own request is a routine cleanup. An unreported duplicate found during a review is not.
If you would like the duplicate closed formally, the process is described in Closing, deactivating or deleting your account.
If you cannot get into your account, do not make a new one
Being locked out is the single most common reason people create a second account, and it is the worst time to do it. A new account will not restore your gems, your inventory or your verification, and having two accounts makes recovering the original slower. Do this instead:
If you have forgotten your password or lost access to 2FA, work through Logging in: password, 2FA and access issues.
If your account is locked or frozen, see Why is my account locked or frozen?
If your verification is stuck, see How to verify your identity (KYC).
If none of that resolves it, please ask to speak to a human and our team will look into it. Recovering your existing account is nearly always possible with the right checks.
How verification works
Identity verification on BOXED is powered by Veriff, and it requires a physical government-issued ID. Digital copies, photographs of a screen, and non-government documents are not accepted, so have the physical document with you when you start.
Verification is where both of the policies on this page are confirmed: it links one identity to one account, and it establishes your age. Details of the process itself are in How to verify your identity (KYC). Phone verification is a separate, simpler check and is covered in Phone verification: supported numbers and codes.
Related account limits
Separately from these policies, availability depends on where you are. BOXED is not available at all in Michigan, Washington, Louisiana and South Carolina. This is a complete platform restriction rather than a limit on particular payment methods or features. See Regional availability and "action not permitted" errors.
Withdrawal limits run on their own separate system and increase as your account builds verified history. See Withdrawal fees, limits and status.
Common questions
How old do I need to be to use BOXED?
You need to be 18 or over to hold a BOXED account. This applies in every market we operate in, and your age is confirmed during identity verification using the ID you submit.
Your terms used to allow under-18s with parental permission. What changed?
Our earlier Terms of Service allowed limited use by younger collectors with a parent or guardian's permission. As BOXED has grown and as standards for online age verification have tightened, we moved to a single consistent 18+ requirement across every market. New registrations confirm age at signup, and we are applying the same standard to existing accounts.
What happens to an account that does not meet the age requirement?
The account is locked, any remaining purchased gem balance is refunded to the original payment method, and the account is then closed on a date we confirm with you. Any items already claimed and shipped are yours to keep. If you would like your personal data deleted as well, you can request that and we will process it.
Do I lose items I already received?
No. Any items that have already been claimed and shipped are yours to keep. The account closure does not affect items that have already left our fulfilment process.
What if my age was determined incorrectly?
If you believe an age determination was made in error, reply to the message you received with supporting documentation and our team will review it. If the review finds the determination was incorrect, your access is restored.
Can I have more than one BOXED account?
No, BOXED allows one account per person, and additional or duplicate accounts are not permitted. If you already have a second account, please ask to speak to a human and our team will help you sort out which one stays active.
I accidentally created a second account. What should I do?
Stop using the newer account, then ask to speak to a human and our team will look into it. Tell us the email address on each account and which one you want to keep. Reporting it yourself is treated as routine cleanup and is always better than leaving it unresolved.
I am locked out of my account. Can I just make a new one?
No, please do not create a new account if you are locked out. A second account will not restore your gems, items or verification, and it makes recovering the original harder. Work through the login and account lock articles first, and if those do not resolve it, ask to speak to a human.
How are duplicate accounts found?
Duplicate accounts are identified during identity verification and through routine review of accounts on the platform. We do not publish the details of how that review works.
What do I need for identity verification?
You need a physical government-issued ID. Verification is powered by Veriff, and digital copies or photographs of a screen are not accepted, so have the physical document with you when you start.
Can my partner or family member use my account?
No, accounts are personal to the individual who verified them and should not be shared, since verification links one identity to one account. Each person who wants to use BOXED needs to register and verify their own account, and each person must be 18 or over.
