Forge is the BOXED feature that lets you build your own box instead of only opening ours. You choose which items go inside, set the drop rate for each one, give the box a name, and publish it so other members can open it. Forge boxes are community-created, and they behave like any other box on BOXED once they are live.
Summary
You choose the items in the box and set the drop rate for each one.
The box price is calculated automatically from the items and drop rates you configure. You do not set the price yourself.
Every non-voucher item must come from a single category. You cannot mix categories inside one box, but you can publish as many separate single-category boxes as you like.
A box can include at most one gem voucher.
Box names are limited to 24 characters and cannot contain special characters. Names are subject to automatic moderation.
Forge boxes use the same Provably Fair system as every other box on BOXED.
Creators receive a commission of roughly 13% of the gems spent opening their box.
How to build a box
Open Forge and start a new box.
Choose your items. Pick the items you want inside the box from the available catalogue. Every non-voucher item you add has to belong to the same category as the others.
Set the drop rate for each item. Assign each item its chance of being pulled, for example a small chance on your top item and larger chances on the more common ones. The drop rates across the box need to account for every possible result before it can be published.
Name your box. Names can be up to 24 characters and cannot include special characters, so keep it short, plain and recognisable.
Review the calculated price. BOXED works out the box price automatically from the items and drop rates you chose. Adjusting a drop rate or swapping an item will move the price.
Publish. Once published, the box appears alongside other boxes for members to open.
How the price is calculated
You do not set the price of a Forge box directly. BOXED calculates it from the items you included and the chance you assigned to each one. In practice this means:
Raising the chance of a high-value item raises the box price. The more likely the best item is to appear, the more expensive the box becomes to open.
Lowering the chance of a high-value item lowers the box price. A rare top item on a small chance keeps the price down.
Adding or removing items changes the price, because the mix of possible results changes.
If your box comes out at a price you are not happy with, adjust the drop rates or the item list and the price recalculates. Balancing an appealing top item against a price members will actually pay is the main design decision in Forge.
Box rules
One category per box
All non-voucher items in a box must come from a single category. You cannot put, for example, Pokemon cards and One Piece cards in the same Forge box. If you want to cover more than one category, build a separate box for each one. There is no restriction on publishing several single-category boxes, so a multi-category idea is best expressed as a set of themed boxes rather than one mixed box.
At most one gem voucher
A box may include a single gem voucher and no more than one. The voucher is the one item that does not have to match the box's category, so you can pair a gem voucher with items from any category. To include a different voucher, remove the first one and add the one you want instead. For background on how vouchers work, see Gem vouchers, gift codes and free gems.
Box names
Box names are capped at 24 characters, including spaces, and cannot contain special characters, so stick to plain letters and numbers. Names also pass through automatic moderation before a box goes live, which means a name can be rejected at the point you try to publish it. Names need to be suitable for a public storefront: no impersonation of BOXED or its staff, no offensive language, and no misleading claims about what the box contains. If a name is rejected, edit it and try publishing again.
Commission on your box
When another member opens a box you created, you receive a commission of roughly 13% of the gems spent on that opening. Commission accrues automatically as opens happen, so there is nothing to trigger manually. It appears in your gem balance in the normal way, and you can see how gems work generally in Gems: the complete guide.
Commission is a by-product of publishing a box rather than the point of it. A well-built Forge box is one that is clearly named, honestly described by its contents, and balanced so that the common results still feel worth having. If you are specifically looking to earn from bringing new members to BOXED, that runs through a separate feature entirely. See Affiliate and sponsorship program.
Opening Forge boxes
Forge boxes are opened exactly like any other box on BOXED, and results are generated by the same Provably Fair system, so a community-created box is just as verifiable as an official one. You can check the result of any opening yourself.
Whatever you pull goes into your inventory, where you can sell it back for gems, withdraw it, or display it in a Binder on your profile. See Boxes and box opening, Cards: sell back, withdraw, exchange or display and Binders: displaying your collection on your profile.
Boxes you have forged are also shown on your public profile. If you would rather they were not visible, Anonymous Mode hides your profile across most of the site. See Your profile: display and privacy.
Troubleshooting
My box will not publish
Check the common blockers first: every non-voucher item needs to be from the same category, the box can contain at most one gem voucher, your drop rates need to cover every possible result, and your name needs to be 24 characters or fewer with no special characters. If all of those are correct and the box still will not publish, please ask to speak to a human and our team will look into it.
My box name was rejected
Box names pass through automatic moderation, and a name can be rejected for length, for special characters, or for content that is not suitable for a public storefront. Edit the name to plain letters and numbers within 24 characters and try again.
I cannot add a second voucher
This is expected. A box can contain at most one gem voucher. To include a different voucher, remove the first one and add the one you want instead.
The price is higher than I want
The price follows the items and drop rates, so lower the chance on your highest-value item, or replace it with a less valuable one, and the calculated price will come down.
Common questions
What is Forge on BOXED?
Forge is the BOXED feature that lets you create your own box. You choose the items it contains, set a drop rate for each item, name the box, and publish it for other members to open.
How is my Forge box's price set?
Your Forge box's price is calculated automatically from the items you included and the drop rate you set for each one. You cannot set the price directly, but changing the items or their drop rates will change the calculated price.
Can I mix categories in one Forge box?
No, all non-voucher items in a Forge box must come from a single category. You can, however, publish as many separate single-category boxes as you like, so the way to cover several categories is to build one box per category.
How many gem vouchers can I include?
You can include at most one gem voucher in a Forge box. The voucher is the only item that does not have to match the box's category.
How long can a Forge box name be?
A Forge box name can be up to 24 characters long, including spaces, and cannot contain special characters. Names are also checked by automatic moderation before the box goes live.
Do I receive anything when people open my box?
Yes, you receive a commission of roughly 13% of the gems spent when another member opens a box you created. The commission accrues automatically as opens happen, with nothing to claim manually.
Are Forge boxes provably fair?
Yes, Forge boxes use the same Provably Fair system as every other box on BOXED, so you can verify the result of any opening yourself.
Can I edit or remove my box after publishing?
Your published boxes are managed from Forge, where you can see everything you have created. If you need a box taken down and cannot do it yourself, please ask to speak to a human and our team will look into it.
