Hop or Drop is a multiplayer game on BOXED where you spend gems to enter a round, hop your frog across traffic lanes, and choose when to stop. The longer you keep hopping, the higher the multiplier climbs, and the higher the value of the item you receive when you Drop Out.
TL;DR
Choose a preset gem amount, join a round, and hop across the lanes. Each successful hop raises your multiplier, starting at 0.5x and climbing to 100x at hop 14. Drop Out at any point to end your run and receive an item worth your gems multiplied by the current multiplier. If your frog is hit by traffic, your run ends and you receive the minimum item. All outcomes are provably fair and processed server side. Items you receive go straight to your inventory.
How to play
Choose your gem amount. Hop or Drop uses preset amounts only. You cannot enter a custom amount.
Join a round. Enter the lobby and wait for the round to start. Multiple players take part in each round.
Hop or Drop Out. After each successful hop your multiplier increases. You can Drop Out at any point to end your run, or keep hopping to push the multiplier higher.
Receive your item. When you Drop Out, you receive an item worth your gems multiplied by the multiplier you stopped at. The item goes to your inventory.
Preset gem amounts
Hop or Drop accepts these preset amounts:
100, 500, 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, 10,000, 30,000, 50,000, 75,000, and 100,000 gems.
Custom amounts are not available. If you want to enter with a different amount, choose the closest preset.
Multiplier progression
Your multiplier rises with each successful hop, following a fixed progression:
Hop | Multiplier |
1 | 0.5x |
2 | 0.75x |
3 | 1.2x |
4 | 1.52x |
5 | 2.24x |
6 | 3.59x |
7 | 5.12x |
8 | 7.39x |
9 | 10.95x |
10 | 16.79x |
11 | 27.4x |
12 | 50.54x |
13 | 90.69x |
14 | 100x |
The first two hops sit below 1x, which means stopping there returns an item worth less than the gems you entered with. The multiplier passes 1x at hop 3, so hop 3 is the first point where you receive more value than you put in. From there it climbs steeply, reaching 100x at hop 14.
Deciding when to Drop Out is the core of the game.
If your frog is hit
If your frog is hit by traffic, your run ends immediately. Your gems are spent and you receive the minimum item, which is worth 1 gem. This is why the timing of your Drop Out matters.
What happens to the items you receive
Items from Hop or Drop go straight to your inventory, exactly like items from boxes or battles. From your inventory you can:
Sell the item back for gems
Withdraw it, either as a physical card or to Steam if it is a CS2 skin
Trade it on the Marketplace
Swap it using Exchange
Keep it in your collection and display it in a Binder
For a full breakdown of your options, see Cards: sell back, withdraw, exchange or display.
Common questions
Can I choose any gem amount to play?
No. Hop or Drop uses preset gem amounts only: 100, 500, 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, 10,000, 30,000, 50,000, 75,000, and 100,000 gems. You cannot enter a custom amount. If the amount you want is not listed, choose the nearest preset.
At which hop do I break even?
You break even at hop 3, where the multiplier reaches 1.2x. Hops 1 and 2 sit at 0.5x and 0.75x, which are below your entry amount, so stopping at either returns an item worth less than the gems you spent to enter.
What is the highest multiplier?
The highest multiplier is 100x, reached at hop 14. The progression climbs steeply through the later hops, going from 10.95x at hop 9 to 90.69x at hop 13 before reaching 100x.
What happens if I disconnect during a round?
There is no automatic Drop Out if you disconnect. If you lose your connection mid round, the round continues without you and your frog carries on to the next hop. If it is hit while you are disconnected, your run ends with the minimum item. We recommend playing on a stable connection.
I pressed Drop Out but my run still ended. What happened?
All outcomes are processed server side, and there is a very short window between pressing Drop Out and the server receiving that request. If the server had already processed the next hop before your Drop Out arrived, that result stands. This is not a bug, it is how server side processing keeps outcomes consistent for every player in the round.
Is Hop or Drop provably fair?
Yes. Like every experience on BOXED, Hop or Drop uses our provably fair system, which means every outcome is cryptographically verifiable and you can independently confirm that a result was not manipulated. To check any round, see Provably Fair.
Where do the items I receive go?
Items you receive from Hop or Drop are added to your inventory automatically. From there you can sell them back for gems, withdraw them, trade them on the Marketplace, swap them through Exchange, or keep them in your collection.
What items can I receive?
The item pool includes real items such as CS2 skins, knives, trading cards, and more. The item you receive is determined by the gem value at the point you Drop Out, which is your gem amount multiplied by the multiplier you stopped at.
Can I get a refund for a round that did not go my way?
Hop or Drop outcomes are final and are not refundable, because the entry is for the chance to receive an item rather than for a specific item. If you would rather have gems than the item you received, you can sell it back for gems from your inventory. If you believe a technical error affected a specific round, please ask to speak to a human and include the approximate time of the round.
My gems were deducted but the round did not start. What should I do?
If gems were deducted but you were not placed into a round, please ask to speak to a human and include the approximate time it happened. Our team will investigate and put it right.
